Buxton has many attractions for the visitor.that are easily accessed from our edge-of-town location These include Pooles Cavern, Go Ape - a high wire forest adventure course, an excellent museum and the Pavilion Gardens. You can also pamper yourself at Buxton's Devonshire Spa. All are within easy walking distance of Buxton Hilbre B and B. For more ideas check out The Buxton Directory.

Chatsworth House near to Buxton Hilbre bed and breakfastThere are many places within easy reach of Buxton which are well worth a visit. These include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Castleton Caverns, and the Derwent Dams.

For those with an interest in History, the famous henge of Arbor Low is only a few miles from Buxton, as is the Plague village of Eyam.

Alton Towers is approximately an hour away by car, and the many attractions of the Matlock area (such as the Heights of Abraham) are closer still.

Kinder and Bleaklow near to Buxton Hilbre

Kinder Scout, the famous gritstone and peat moorland plateau area lies within easy reach. There are many fine walks in this unique landscape, crossed by the Pennine Way. Other fine areas for walks are Bleaklow, Win Hill and Lose Hill and the Goyt Valley - all within easy reach.

Dovedale, with its wonderful landscape, is less than 20 miles from Buxton. Enjoy a fine, easy walk along this magnificent valley, from the picture-postcard village of Ilam to the bustle of the cheese-making village of Hartington.

The Peak District is a wonderful area for walking, cycling, (National Park Cycle Hire, Peak District Cycling Tours and Cycle Hire), rock-climbing, pot-holing, hang-gliding and helicopter rides.

Buxton and the surrounding area has many facilities for outdoor activities - including a golf driving range and a hang-gliding/para-gliding school.

We cater especially for people who plan outdoor activities, walking and cycling in particular. We have a library of local itineraries to suit all levels of fitness.

There are numerous local attractions which are of interest to children. These include Owls and Otters, the Donkey Sanctuary, Eyam Hall and Craft Centre and Chatsworth House and Park.

Also of interest are Blackbrook Zoological Park, Tittesworth Reservoir and visitor centre, Carsington Reservoir and visitor centre.
