What we do.. what you can do at Buxton Hilbre bed and Breakfast

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

We are totally committed and passionate about doing all we can to reduce our impact on the environment. You may well have noticed the measures we have taken to achieve this wherever possible:

What we do:

REDUCE

Light bulbs – we have replaced as many as 80% of our light bulbs with low energy environmentally friendly alternatives. These low energy bulbs do take a while to warm-up, and we would ask you to be patient. If the light appears a little dull at first, it will brighten in a few minutes.

Heating – all our guest rooms have double-glazed windows with special ‘k’ glass. The heating is on morning and evening, and you can control the temperature in your room with the individual thermostat. Blankets are provided in each room, along with hot water bottles if you feel the cold. While we try to keep our heating to a comfortable and healthy temperature, we are aware that it can feel chilly when staying away from home. If an extra layer does not help, please tell us and we would be happy to extend the heating for you.

REUSE

Shopping Bags – each room is supplied with a reusable fabric shopping bag for guests to use and then leave for others to use. We hope that this will reduce the number of plastic bags that we currently recycle for our guests. Bin bags – despite using a reusable shopping bag wherever possible, we still find ourselves with carrier bags which we reuse to line bins. If you do have any spare carriers, please leave them next to the bin so that we can reuse them for you. When we run-out we use a biodegradable bin liner.

RECYCLE

All tissue products are made from 100% recycled materials – we have spent some time finding suitable quality products that are soft and durable, and hope that you agree!

Toiletries – because soap is the most difficult substance to clean from waste water, we provide fully biodegradable soaps and shampoos for you to use in refillable bottles. If you run-out, we will happily provide more, and would ask you to leave the bottles at the end of your stay for us to wash and refill.

THINK GLOBAL, BUY LOCAL

Local products

We endeavour to support local business wherever possible both with our meat and dairy products, our vegetables and local art. We hope that you enjoy these introductions to local Derbyshire industry and talent. We hope that you are enjoying our home made marmalade, too.

What you can do:

REDUCE

We would ask you to turn lights off whenever they are not in use.

RECYCLE

We are able to recycle the following:

Please leave any of these items, rinsed and dry, in the box provided so that we can sort and recycle them for you.

Environmental Quality Mark (EQM)

We are proud to be holders of this prestigious award. The EQM is a local quality scheme to promote and protect the environment and provide a business network for sustainable practices. We would love to hear your comments on any aspect.
